Who I Am

I'm Tharul Thenuwara, Director of Gorilla Motion Works.

I build software and work on ideas around game development and core systems. I created TORF (Thenuwara's Open Rendering Framework) as part of learning how things work from the ground up.

Most of what I do is self-driven. I prefer starting small, figuring things out, and improving over time.

My Story

I got into this during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I started exploring video game development. At first, I used FPS Creator to build my first level and mod. What started as curiosity quickly turned into something more – I wanted to understand everything, from rendering to game logic.

In 2023, I founded Gorilla Motion Works, an independent game studio focused on narrative-driven projects. As I kept building, I realized I wanted more control over the tools I was using, which led me to start developing my own engine.

That's how TORF (Thenuwara's Open Rendering Framework) started – my attempt to build a game engine from the ground up and explore how these systems really work.

Now, at 17, I continue improving the engine while also working on short films and experimenting with how cinematic storytelling can blend with interactive technology.

What I Do

I focus on building tools and experiences that redefine what independent creators can achieve.
